BNV : ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত লোক রহবিয়ামকে নতুন রাজা হিসেবে অভিষিক্ত করবার জন্য শিখিমে জমায়েত হয়েছিল, তাই রহবিয়াম সেখানে গিয়েছিলেন|
KJV : And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
YLT : And Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for [to] Shechem have all Israel come to cause him to reign.
RV : And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

ERVEN : Jeroboam son of Nebat was still in Egypt where he had run away from Solomon. When he heard about Solomon's death, he returned to his city, Zeredah, in the hills of Ephraim. Rehoboam and all of the Israelites went to Shechem to make Rehoboam the king. The people said to Rehoboam,

BNV : নবাটের পুত্র যারবিযাম যখন একথা শুনলেন, তিনি মিশর থেকে যেখানে তিনি রাজা শলোমনের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন, সেখানে ফিরে এলেন|
KJV : And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who [was] in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard [it,] that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
YLT : And it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat`s -- who [is] in Egypt because he hath fled from the face of Solomon the king -- hearing, that Jeroboam turneth back out of Egypt;
RV : And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

BNV : ইস্রায়েলের উত্তরাঞ্চলের উপজাতিরা তাঁকেও তাদের সঙ্গে য়োগ দিতে বললেন| এবং তিনি ও ইস্রায়েলের সবাই রহবিয়ামের কাছে গিয়ে বললেন,

BNV : “মহারাজ, আপনার পিতার জন্য আমাদের জীবন দুর্বিসহ হয়ে উঠেছিল| এখন আপনি দয়া করে সেই বোঝা কিছুটা হাল্কা করলে আমরা আপনার জন্য কাজ-কর্ম করতে পারি|”
KJV : Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
YLT : `Thy father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light [somewhat] of the sharp service of thy father, and of his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.`
RV : Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
RSV : "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke upon us, and we will serve you."
ASV : Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

ERVEN : "Your father forced us to work very hard. Now, make it easier for us. Stop the heavy work that your father forced us to do and we will serve you."

BNV : রহবিয়াম তাদের বললেন, “তোমরা তিনদিন পরে আমার কাছে ফিরে এসো|” সুতরাং তারা তখনকার মতো চলে গেল|
KJV : And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
YLT : And he saith unto them, `Yet three days -- then return ye unto me;` and the people go.
RV : And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
RSV : He said to them, "Come to me again in three days." So the people went away.
ASV : And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
ESV : He said to them, "Come to me again in three days." So the people went away.
ERVEN : Rehoboam answered, "Come back to me in three days, and I will answer you." So the people left.

BNV : তখন রাজা রহবিয়াম, তাঁর পিতার আমলে কাজ করেছেন এরকম সমস্ত প্রবীণ ব্যক্তিদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন| রহবিয়াম তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনারা পরামর্শ দিন এখন আমি কি করব?”
KJV : And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye [me] to return answer to this people?
YLT : And king Rehoboam consulteth with the aged men who have been standing before Solomon his father in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?`
RV : And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
RSV : Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, "How do you advise me to answer this people?"

ERVEN : There were some older men who had helped Solomon make decisions when he was alive. So King Rehoboam asked these men what he should do. He said, "How do you think I should answer the people?"

BNV : প্রবীণরা তাঁকে বললেন, “আপনি যদি এই সমস্ত প্রজাদের সঙ্গে সদ্ব্য়বহার করেন এবং তাদের কষ্ট লাঘব করার ব্যবস্থা করেন তাহলে তারা চিরজীবন আপনার অনুগত হয়ে কাজ করবে|”
KJV : And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
YLT : And they speak unto him, saying, `If thou dost become good to this people, and hast been pleased with them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.`
RV : And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants forever.
RSV : And they said to him, "If you will be kind to this people and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants for ever."
ASV : And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
ESV : And they said to him, "If you will be good to this people and please them and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever."
ERVEN : They answered, "If you do what is good for the people, you will please them. If you speak kindly to them, they will always work for you."

BNV : কিন্তু রহবিয়াম প্রবীণদের কথায় কর্ণপাত করলেন না| তার বদলে তিনি যাদের সঙ্গে বড় হয়েছিলেন সেই যুবকদের একই কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন,
KJV : But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
YLT : And he forsaketh the counsel of the aged men that they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, those standing before him,
RV : But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.
RSV : But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him.

ERVEN : But Rehoboam did not listen to the advice from the older men. He asked the young men who were his friends.

BNV : “এই লোকদের আমি কি উত্তর দেব? ওরা আমাকে ওদের কাজের ভার কমাতে বলছে|”
KJV : And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
YLT : and he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people that have spoken unto me, saying, Make light [somewhat] of the yoke that thy father put upon us?`
RV : And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?
RSV : And he said to them, "What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, `Lighten the yoke that your father put upon us'?"

ERVEN : Rehoboam said, "The people said, 'Give us easier work than your father gave us.' How do you think I should answer them? What should I tell them?"

BNV : তখন রহবিয়ামের বন্ধু ও সঙ্গীরা তাঁকে পরামর্শ দিলেন, “যেসব লোক তাদের কাজের ভার নিয়ে নালিশ করেছে, আপনি তাদের এই কথা বলুন| লোকরা আপনাকে বলছে, ‘আপনার পিতা আমাদের জীবন কঠিন করে তুলছে, ইহা অত্যন্ত ভারী বোঝার মতো| কিন্তু আমরা চাই আপনি তা লঘু করুন|’ কিন্তু রহবিয়াম তাদের বলল, ঐসব লোকদের ডাকুন আর বলুন, “বাঁশের চেয়ে কঞ্চি দড় হয়|”
KJV : And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou [it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little [finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
YLT : And the lads who have grown up with him, speak with him, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light [somewhat] of our yoke; thus dost thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father;
RV : And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father-s loins.
RSV : And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, "Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you, `Your father made our yoke heavy, but do you lighten it for us'; thus shall you say to them, `My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
ASV : And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my fathers loins.
ESV : And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, "Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us'; thus shall you say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's thighs.
ERVEN : Then the young men who grew up with him answered, "Those people came to you and said, 'Your father forced us to work very hard. Now make our work easier.' So you should tell them, 'My little finger is stronger than my father's whole body.

BNV : তোমরা বলছো যে আমার পিতা নাকি তোমাদের খাটিযে মারছিলেন, তোমাদের ওপর বড্ড বোঝা পড়ছিল? বোঝা কাকে বলে এবার বুঝবে| আমি তোমাদের কি রকম কাজ করাই দেখো| আমার পিতা তোমাদের শুধু চাবকাতেন| আমি তোমাদের কাঁকড়া বিছে দিয়ে চাবকাবো|”
KJV : For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.
YLT : and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I -- I add unto your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- with scorpions.`
RV : And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I {cf15i will chastise you} with scorpions.
RSV : And now, whereas my father laid upon you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'"

ERVEN : My father forced you to work hard, but I will make you work much harder! My father punished you with whips, but I will punish you with whips that have sharp metal tips.'"

BNV : তিনদিন পরে আমার কাছে রহবিয়ামের আদেশ মতো, যারবিযাম সহ সবাই তাঁর কাছে তাঁর সিদ্ধান্তের কথা জানতে এলো|
KJV : So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
YLT : And Jeroboam cometh in, and all the people, unto Rehoboam on the third day, as the king spake, saying, `Return unto me on the third day.`
RV : So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.
RSV : So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, "Come to me again the third day."

ERVEN : Three days later, Jeroboam and all the people came back like Rehoboam had said.

BNV : প্রবীণদের কথায় কান না দিয়ে সঙ্গীদের পরামর্শ মতো রহবিয়াম তাঁদের সঙ্গে খুব কর্কশভাবে কথা বললেন এবং
KJV : And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
YLT : And the king answereth them sharply, and king Rehoboam forsaketh the counsel of the aged men,

ERVEN : King Rehoboam did not listen to the advice from the older men, and he was rude to the people.

BNV : সঙ্গীদের উপদেশ অনুযায়ীবললেন, “আমার পিতা তোমাদের জোযালকে ভারী করেছিলেন, আমি তাকে আরো ভারী করব| আমার পিতা শুধু তোমাদের চাবকাতেন, কিন্তু আমি কাঁকড়া বিছে দিয়ে চাবকাবো|”
KJV : And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.

ERVEN : He did what his friends told him to do and said, "My father forced you to work hard, but I will make you work much harder! My father punished you with whips, but I will punish you with whips that have sharp metal tips."

BNV : অর্থাত্‌ রহবিয়াম প্রজা সাধারণের আবেদনে কোনো কর্ণপাত করলেন না| অবশ্য যাতে যারবিযাম সম্পর্কে বলা শীলোনীয অহিযের ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী সত্যি হয় তাই এসব ঘটনা প্রভুর অভিপ্রায় অনুযায়ীঘটেছিল|
KJV : So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
YLT : And the king hath not hearkened unto the people, for the revolution hath been from God, for the sake of Jehovah`s establishing His word that He spake by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.
RV : So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was brought about of God, that the LORD might establish his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
RSV : So the king did not hearken to the people; for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the LORD might fulfil his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ASV : So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was brought about of God, that Jehovah might establish his word, which he spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ESV : So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the LORD might fulfill his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ERVEN : So the king did not do what the people wanted. The Lord caused this to happen. He did this in order to keep the promise he made to Jeroboam son of Nebat when he sent Ahijah, the prophet from Shiloh, to speak to him.

BNV : যখন ইস্রায়েলের লোকরা দেখল যে রাজা রহবিয়াম তাঁদের আবেদনে কোনই মনোয়োগ দিলেন না, তখন তাঁরা উত্তর দিলেন, “আমরা কি দাযূদের বংশের অধিকারভুক্ত অথবা য়িশযের উত্তরাধিকারে আমাদের কোন দাবী আছে? না! সুতরাং ইস্রাযেল, চল আমরা আমাদের নিজেদের বাড়িতে ফিরে যাই এবং দাযূদের বংশ নিজেই দেখাশোনা করুক|” সুতরাং ইস্রায়েলের উত্তরাঞ্চলের উপজাতি সমস্ত লোক যে যার নিজের বাড়িতে ফিরে গেল|
KJV : And when all Israel [saw] that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and [we have] none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: [and] now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
YLT : And all Israel have seen that the king hath not hearkened to them, and the people send back [to] the king, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; each to thy tents, O Israel; now, see thy house -- David,` and all Israel go to their tents.
RV : And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed unto their tents.
RSV : And when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, "What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Each of you to your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David." So all Israel departed to their tents.
ASV : And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed unto their tents.
ESV : And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, "What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Each of you to your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David." So all Israel went to their tents.
ERVEN : The Israelites saw that the new king refused to listen to them, so they said to the king, "Are we part of David's family? No. Do we get any of Jesse's land? No. So Israel, let's go home and let David's son rule his own people!" So the Israelites went home.

BNV : সুতরাং, যারা যিহূদা অঞ্চলে বাস করত শুধুমাত্র সেই লোকদের ওপর রহবিয়াম রাজত্ব করেছিলেন|
KJV : But [as for] the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
YLT : As to the sons of Israel who are dwelling in the cities of Judah -- Rehoboam reigneth over them.
RV : But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

BNV : হদোরাম এীতদাসদের ওপর নজরদারির কাজ করতো| যখন রহবিয়াম তাকে উত্তরাঞ্চলের উপজাতি লোকদের সঙ্গে কথা বলার জন্য পাঠিয়েছিলেন, তারা সকলে পাথর ছুঁড়ে হদোরামকে হত্যা করেছিল| তখন রহবিয়াম তাড়াতাড়ি নিজের রথে চড়ে জেরুশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন|
KJV : Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that [was] over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to [his] chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
YLT : And king Rehoboam sendeth Hadoram, who [is] over the tribute, and the sons of Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;
RV : Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the levy; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
RSV : Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and the people of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam made haste to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
ASV : Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
ESV : Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and the people of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam quickly mounted his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
ERVEN : A man named Adoniram was one of the men who directed the workers. King Rehoboam sent Adoniram to talk to the people, but the Israelites threw stones at him until he died. King Rehoboam ran to his chariot and escaped to Jerusalem.

BNV : এই ঘটনার পর থেকে আজ পর্য়ন্ত উত্তরাঞ্চলের জনগোষ্ঠী দাযূদের বংশের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করে এসেছে|
KJV : And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
YLT : and Israel transgress against the house of David unto this day.
RV : So Israel rebelled against the house of David, unto this day.
